Interview with a 1:1 Principal

Below is an audio interview with Blaire Traywick, principal of Sun Valley Middle School in Indian Trail, North Carolina.  SVMS has recently begun a 1:1 initiative by distributing Dell netbooks to each of their 6th grade students.

The following questions were addressed in the interview:

• What were your initial feelings when you heard that your school would be going to a 1:1 initiative?
• What were some of the biggest challenges in taking the plan from a vision to reality? 
• Why do you think that it is important for teachers to integrate technology within the classroom?
• What role should professional development play in the implementation process of 1:1?
• What are the key factors that need to be in place in order for teachers - especially technologically challenged - to be able to integrate technology in an innovative way?
• Considering your experiences, what advice would you give to any district or school that is considering implementing a 1:1 initiative?
